How to read the result

One refrigeration ton equals 12,000 BTU/h. This is a unit definition, not evidence that a nominal one-ton system delivers 12,000 BTU/h at every outdoor temperature. The number of zones is retained as a planning reminder and does not change the conversion or allocate capacity.

Ask your HVAC contractor to check heating capacity at the winter design temperature, cooling capacity at summer design conditions, minimum modulation and approved indoor/outdoor combinations. Individual rooms rarely have equal loads. A sum of indoor-head labels does not establish simultaneous outdoor-unit output.

Before choosing equipment

  1. Obtain room-by-room heating and cooling loads.
  2. Confirm the exact indoor/outdoor model combination.
  3. Review performance tables and the manufacturer's installation manual.
  4. Have a qualified installer verify electrical, refrigerant and drainage requirements.
